Sheffield Group Party

Our annual Hogswatch celebration of Pork and Pork-Related Products is next Friday, the 19th, upstairs at the Old Queen's Head.

The buffet is £5.50 per head, and is pork and pig related, with lots of veggie options too. We can bring our own food to add to it, so if you have a Hogswatch speciality, feel free! That will kick off about 7:30 - 8:00.

The centrepiece will be a Peter Harrow Spam sculpture of the Discworld, Turtle, Elephants and all.

There will be games and prizes. The Hogfather has promised to be in attendance, and there is a Secret Hogfather present pool, with a £5 limit.

Costumes are optional, Discworld themed if possible. Some kind of clothing would be preferred, though.

If you're intending to come, can you let us know? so we can give the pub an idea of buffet numbers. And if you need crash space, shout as soon as poss.

Hogswatch Recipes

It's getting to be that time of year when we need to think about those things you make in advance. Pickles, preserved fruit, jams, jellies, steeped wines, all that sort of thing. All those recipes that you dig out at the start of winter, and they say "put in a dark cupboard for three months / at least six weeks".

Something like this: http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/library/chrischutney.htm

What are you planning?

The Hogfather

I've been away so I'm not sure if this has been posted already:

I haven't had a chance to look at it properly (in more ways then one - my cats think they are crystal clear). However I thought I'd share with everybody.

Trailer uploaded

Nononoyagogo has uploaded the Hogfather Trailer to YouTube.

The Hog Tie

It was Blanche Posonby, daugher of Major Ponsonby, who first recorded some of the more obscure Hogswatch customs to be found in the Ramtops. Sparing no expense, and using an entire string of polo ponies to carry her wardrobe over the mountains, she spend almost a year visiting small communities that had never been visited by earlier researchers and was fortunate enough to be present in High Twittering on the night of Hogswatch itself to observe the custom of the sacrifice at first hand.

Getting Excited Now

There is a continental market visiting Sheffield, on Fargate from today through the weekend. There are lots of stalls with Christmas treats, sweets, cakes, and stuff. And I found a Hogfather sledge, made of chocolate, and full of chocolate biscuits wrapped in gold and silver foil. It has no reindeer (phatoo, bleughie, abominations), just the sledge. It's about 7 inches long and 4 inches high, on a silver board, and cost £12:00. So if I can liaise with my supplier of hand-made sugar pigs, we can get them the right proportion to lead the sledge across the dessert table ...

The Hogfather

I'm not sure if many of you have spotted this. So if you haven't may I present The Hogfather.

Yes the synopsis is a little iffy but according to Tony Robinson it looks better the Harry Potter.

Roll on Hogswatch!

(no subject)

Hello and welcome to the community !

Hogswatch is my favourite holiday, and although it's quite a way off we were talking last night about our plans.

Peter WINOLJ is working on a design for a SPAM sculpture. ghost_hare_22 was thinking about what to wear, and a new way of producing sugar piglets. hairyowl was designing origami baskets for the dried frog pills, and thinking about what design to have for this year's Countdown Calendar. arborophile and I were chatting about past feasts, and pork pies. johannes_d and the_dark_womble were already arguing about who is going to play Hogfather for the kiddies.

And I thought - I'm sure there are many many others out there who would like to share their designs, traditions, and recipes with us ! People around the world who celebrate Hogswatch in their own unique way. So I started this community.

Please spread the word, I look forward to trying out all your ideas !!!

(My icon is me in my Hogfather Hat from when I was about 10, wasn't I cute?)
